My family doesn’t celebrate Halloween (ok, one of my kids brought home a packet of Halloween word searches and mazes from public school today– lol), but every year I enjoy the creative and interesting direct sales marketing ideas directed towards Halloween and Trick Or Treating.
My favorite is reverse trick or treating. This is when you stay home and hand out goody bags— in the goody bag is candy for the kids, of course, but also a business card, a coupon, and a sample for the mom! I highly recommend making the mom goody bag and the kid candy separate. If you put everything together in one goody bag, the kid will tear open the bag before he gets home, eat the candy, and crumple up the coupon and sample. You want to welcome the families to your door, put candy in the kid’s bag, and give the goody bag with your coupon and sample and business card (and maybe more candy for mom!) directly to the mom. The wording on your coupon can be creative…… “it’s not trick…. TREAT yourself to…….” (for me, in the skin care biz, it’s treat yourself to a FREE skin care pampering session and makeover. but you can have them treat themselves to a 10% discount or a free product worth $10.00, etc and this can work for Tupperware, Pampered Chef, Scentsy, etc etc etc.).
Another idea—- do a mystery hostess fun pack or in person party or facebook party and make it a “ghost host”.
I also like the Halloween scavenger hunt idea for bookings….. find a woman wearing orange. Find a woman trick or treating at the mall with her kid. Find a woman buying a pumpkin at the grocery store, etc etc. As you’re filling in the sheet you’re making conversation with each of these lovely ladies about what they can win for helping you with your scavenger hunt (when I do these, I call EVERY lady on the list the next day to tell them that they won a FREE skin care pampering session and makeover. What can YOU give away for free to get them booking with you?
